HOW TO START A "TNR"
(trap-neuter-return)
PROGRAM IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Join WeCATS
BE COMMITTED
BE PERSISTENT
GET ORGANIZED
This is not a program that will happen over night. It takes time, hard work, commitment and money
WeCATS Corp is the only organization that will help you get started by providing information and the educational tools in a TNR start-up kit
created by WeCATS along with a network of support by other WeCATS volunteers .
The only effective way to begin your program is to educate your community with the facts. WeCATS will assist with your first community meeting.
And again this will not happen over night.
People are set in their ways and it will take a lot of schmoozing to get them to change their way of thinking.
A feral cat is born outside and lives its life, outside, in the wild. The most common misunderstanding about feral cats is
people still view them as domestic pets. The fact is, a feral cat is a wild animal exactly like rabbits, raccoons, squirrels and so on.
We need to recognize them as such and treat them as we do all other wild life.
One thing you do have on your side is proof. Proof that is right before their eyes. The best example is the fact that trapping and killing
does not work. How do we know this? Because there are more cats year after year no matter how many times they trap and kill them,
more cats will come .This situation is called the “Vacuum” effect and has been proven and documented worldwide.
The key is to control the population by stopping the breeding.
So what do you do?
Form your group with other members of the community that care about the situation. Your not alone, but most times people
tend to shy away for fear of repercussions. Remember there is strength in numbers.
Next step is to communicate with the park management or land owner
WeCATS will contact the decision maker and help you get written permission.
Their co operation is essential for a successful program
They may be reluctant at first, but stick with it by stressing how the solution to the situation is beneficial to the cats,
community and management. WeCATS Corp will get you started with the initial funds and you will continue to raise
the money through fundraisers eliminating any financial obligation to management.
So really, what do they have to lose?
Next step is to hold a community meeting.
This is the hard part, trying to change the way people think and feel about cats.
We will provide you with all the information you need to educate your community

Since your colony of cats will remain in your community
there are many things you can do
to address the concerns of the residents.
Maintaining your colony is part two of the program.
Setting up Feral shelters/feeding stations and elimination areas throughout your community.
WeCATS will provide you with one Shelter/feeding station and instructions.
We are now accepting applications for WeCATS auxiliary members.
Please know there is a waiting list and applications are reviewed
on a first come first serve basis.
